The first month of 2017 has come and gone, and it was a doozy. I could write a bunch of cheesy sappiness that says life is full of highs and lows, but who hasn't said that already? One part of getting older (I think) is realizing that there is no "end point". There is no point in time where you sit back in your perfect life and say, "Ahh, this is it. Life is perfect." You just take the good moments where you can and push through the terrible moments. For our country, this is a really, really terrible moment. But of course, it's always peppered with some good, and I believe the good always outshines.
My favorite moments this month were during my staycation with Michael at The Joule! It was my Christmas present, and it was perfect! We had a really yummy dinner at Americano, and I've never seen a restaurant with better branding. So gorgeous. Then we walked 15 steps to Americano for cocktails. Such a fun (and bougy) night! Plus I could live in TenOverSix, the hotel store. Other highlights in January include snow (SNOW!) even though it caused a colossal traffic meltdown all over DFW, an Aquarium field trip for work, studio days, finishing my bathroom, and getting a new haircut! I'm also right on track with one of my goals this year: reading at least one book each month. In January I finished Losing It by Emma Rathbone. Definitely not the best read ever, but it was captivating enough to finish and made me laugh a couple of times. Solid 3 out of 5.
The lows were low, indeed. Starting with layoffs and restructuring at work, lots of super cold weather, and of course political (emotional, moral...) turmoil in our nation. But you know what was brighter than all of that?
The Women's March on January 21st. All over our country as well as many others across the globe. Millions of people were fighting injustice with action, and it was a profoundly moving, inspiring, and radical act of defiance. It's just the beginning, though. It's also the beginning of a fight for me, and countless other men and women who have been silent and are just now joining those activists and justice-seekers who have been tirelessly, relentlessly pursuing equality for more years than I've even been alive. It's never too late to start, friends. Action might feel contrived these days, like it's the vogue thing to do and be seen doing. But ignore that bullshit – your voice is never contrived or forced when you finally wake up and use it. Be honest, seek the truth, and pursue what is right. Acknowledge your station in life – and then use that power for good. Together, we are stronger.
And now, on to February! My most favorite month. Pink pink errythang, my birthday, and lots of love. This Aquarius is ready to take on this month and create more fun, laughter and positivity! Stay tuned.
